Thanks! How about ocean gateways?Skink wrote:It's asking about the land bridge that existed a long time ago between Africa and South America (you know, the one the animals all walked across).parvatipatel wrote:Do you guys know what to put for "Opening and Closing of Ocean Gateways and Land bridges (with impact on biota)"?
I am confused with the answer of this, along with what ocean gateways are.

No no no, I was trying to be funny, sorry [cannot find right emoji for this from the new set].
That's an (in my opinion) humorous sketch from one of the textbooks of how folks believed like organisms lived on opposite sides of the ocean. Obviously, they just walked across!
Seriously, though, I'm not clear what they mean there, either. They're seemingly not referring to ocean basins because that's covered elsewhere, but...that's the only thing that makes sense to me right now because land bridges weren't actually a thing. Were they?![Neutral :|](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

I think what they're trying to get at is like how the creation and separation of supercontinents/oceans affected evolution of organisms (divergent vs. convergent evolution?) and events like the opening of the Drake Passage and how that impacted global climate.parvatipatel wrote:Thanks! 3, basically just divide in half the amount of material eroded (specifically the height), and that will be the amount of subsidence. Sometimes you may have to recalculate overall crustal density if the area contains rocks of multiple densities.parvatipatel wrote:How do you do rep. tasks 1-4? More importantly 3 and 4

4, see this, this, this, and this (plus more, google "block diagram relative age")

What are some suggestions or resources to look into for the mathematical portion of this event? I've been having a lot of trouble with identifying the most salient equations and consistently miss the most points in those sections.

Encyclopedia Britannica is kind of Wikipedia, though you cannot edit it. It is meant to be used for students and therefore it usually summarizes the topic for you. .edu sites are from Universities and are generally more reliable. I recommend http://serc.carleton.edu/mathyouneed/hy ... index.html.cookie75 wrote:https://www.britannica.com/science/hypsometric-curveDat_soccer_girl_16 wrote:What are hypsometric curves, or can someone lead me to a good source?

I actually don't know any on the top of my head. Try going to Soinc?BrS wrote:What are some suggestions or resources to look into for the mathematical portion of this event?
