Do I sense a certain hesitation in answering the ORIGINAL question? I believe the question was how OHIO will do. A young politician, we have in our midst.

No, Mr./Ms. dontsenditinthemail, I'm only teasing. PA has been really strong. Please post anything you find out. I'm glad I can finally discuss Science Olympiad with such avid and dedicated fans. The outside world must think we are crazy or something lol.

Well, Shady Side beat Sewickley at Solon. Other than that, we don't know, as there have been no regionals in PA yet. (1st one is on March 9)

And at the Twin Tiers invitational Harrition beat the other PA teams but it is hard to compare teams there since some many teams had two.

How many teams from states make it to nationals, and is that the only way to make it to nationals?????
They should totally do the all-star team system, so people that work hard with a not strong school can make it, in my opinion.
But I guess my views are skewed in tht sense

1 to 2 teams make it per state (depending on how many teams are registered in the state), and yes it is the only way to advance to the national tournament.

I like the idea of all-star teams, but they would have like 50 people on each team from each state, so it would be pretty difficult to do. Also, the idea of teamwork is sorta gone because instead of competeting for a team people would begin only focusing on events that they think they can get furthest with. I dunno, in theory it would be fun, but it would be harder to run and not necessarily the best for buidling the ideas of teamwork.

I'm pretty sure that the reason NY has a reputation in events like Rocks & Minerals and now Fossils isn't because there's any more knowledge about them in NY generally, but because of a specific team (yes, mine) that's run by a very enthusiastic Earth Sci teacher... so our team really specializes in those events. And when I say 'specializes', I mean like 2nd place at Nationals (and I'm told that they would have gotten 1st if the event had been harder).

My State is this month, the 28th. I'm getting really nervous because this year we are not as great as we once were, so we might lose if we don't try hard enough.
