Wind Power Study Part Div B

Post by BobbyJoe »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any study tools and information for wind power. Thanks! :)

Last year, the study part cover 5 disciplines:
  1. Blade/Rotor Design
  2. Power Generator
  3. Power Storage
  4. Power Transmission
  5. History of Wind Power
Don't know if they will remain the same this year.
There are a ton resources on-line that you can refer. Wikipedia is probably the one that use the most. There are several links on SOINC that can also be referred to.
The problem about having too much information have 2 folds. Which one to consider as the authority and how much detail to cover. Power Storage, Power Transmission, Power Generator has many topics...sometime it can get pretty overwhelming. Also remember that some calculation will be needed...so study all the different math/physic formula relating to power and electricity
One sample test from the Casa Grande Invitational give a pretty good overview of what the test covers.

In the test, can they show you a picture of a windmill and ask you to identify it's type/variation?

Thanks!

From a quick inspection, it looks to me like it's within last year's rules. There's not much that they can't ask.

To build on this a little bit more, a very common question that I've seen is to identify a VAWT vs. a HAWT.
