I'd have to agree, their teams at nats always do great.

We havn't even had our reginals yet, states arn't until spring break, and if we get luckly will go to the nats, that only happens every few years, but I'm on the team 2 so I won't go to the states anyway.

I would definitely have to say OH has the best overall state in science olympiad for several reasons.

1. In 2008, in B they had 1 and 3 and in C they had 2 and 3, that is insane.
2. In division C they have 2 teams in the top 10 (usually the top 8) almost every year
3. They have the lowest average of any 2-team state (aka, the best average of all of the states that bring 2 teams to nationals such as NY, PA)
4. One year they had 2 and 5 at Nationals (in C), and that was without Solon making nationals (it was Mentor and Centerville that year), and obviously Solon was the runner-up last year.

I did a bit of searching (on soinc.org for the past results) to write this post, and through my research i honestly think that OH has the best overall B and C divisions.

Yea, I forgot OH, MA, Penn (and all the other states that people have mentioned). Silly Me! But, by school, I still think that Troy HS dominates the C Div (they have gotten first place at nats for several years).

I also agree that by state, NJ hasn't been too good, but my middle school has been getting top 10ish for the past few years. It was our high school's first year at nats in 2008. I don't remember what the other NJ team got in previous nationals.

How do the SO coordinators determine which states will be able to send 2 schools. (I never realized that Ohio sent 2 schools.) I thought it was related to which states dropped out from the competition.

They base it off of team registration, aka the more teams that are registererd in the state, the more (up to 2) teams that get to go to nationals.

And I agree, Troy has dominated div C, but as a state (counting Northern and Southern cal as 1 state), OH beats California's average.

This is an interesting point, and clearly Ohio stole the show in D.C. in both divisions last May. What I'm interested in seeing is what the Ohio trend has been looking like over the past few years. And dontsenditinthemail you probably have better numbers than I do, but how does Ohio's average stack up consistently against teams like Troy? And how do you think they'll come out this year?
