Yes, knowing the minimum loop size works fine if your design allows you to slip the mass over the end of the beam, but some excellent designs in the way they are connected don't allow that. I am hoping the clarification comes out soon.

I'm sure the job of a SOINC rule-maker is a tough one. You want to define a framework of rules so that everybody is on the same page but don't want to stifle creativity. Actually, you want to encourage it!

The reason for the wording is actually much more mundane: it's really hard to come up with a standard size 'hook' and/or description of such. We've struggled with this language in many events for many years. Even the simple eye hook in the hardware aisle at your local home improvement store isn't standardized. We've considered lots of options, including coat hangers (which also aren't standardized). I'd be really interested in hearing any suggestions anyone might have regarding this.GoldenKnight1 wrote:[

For Boomilever last year with the J-bolt, they were able to make the specifications and installation very specific (the exact UPC of the hook, how far the hook would extend out from the wall). I think a similar procedure could be followed for this event, though requiring a specific part will probably make the event a little more inconvenient to run. Yep.. that was a consistent problem we found. Sure we can pick a specific part and provide the UPC for it, but the availability of that part across this great country of ours is going to be hit or miss.
