You're gonna need a body bag, my sumobot will break bones your sumobot didn't know it had. When we're gone there will be nothing left of it for your teammates to hold on to, when they find your sumobot cold and blue tonight, face down in a parking lot.

More important than bone breaking ability (which may be the only thing more lacking than singing ability @ radashlee :P), what are people doing for scoops?

What sort of general philosophy do you guys do with the scoops to make them lower or sharper than the competition's? Not gimmicks or tricks, or course, since we know that (a) we all keep them secret and (b) they don't work.

Important questions (and my thoughts/ideas):

• Plastic vs. metal vs. other?
  I've been using plastic, which works well (maybe not well enough) for me, since it's easy to machine and doesn't get bent out of shape like sheet metal would. Any thoughts on using a metal scoop? Anyone using fancy composites?
• Angle?
  Is a bevel that's aggressively angled forward better than one that's angled downward? I'm going for about 30 degrees to the floor, but 45 might have worked better last year (I don't know).
• Bevel?
  How are you guys getting the bevel (if any) on the edge of the scoop? I just take a file and sandpaper. No, it's neither easy nor effective. I just don't have anything else to do it with. Well, I could Dremel it, but the file gives better control.
• Size and shape?
  Are you going for a scoop that's so big, it passes over your bot? Maybe a scoop that is small and sharp, but traps the enemy scoop with a steep angle or other geometry? Are you doing a truncated pyramidal frustum like the UE bot from 2007 (and mine from last year)? Or maybe you're using an inverted round "bowl" shaped armor to expose a scoop to all sides? I honestly don't know what I'm going to do for size or shape; maybe just what's convenient.

hey guys im doing sumo and i was wondering if the playing field is gonna b the same as last year, i remember it was really smooth wood so there would no trouble regarding scoops getting stuck on the surface and what not
