Re: Entomology B/C
I don't think they'll change up the rules, they were pretty good. As for the list, I hope they add a few more families. Maybe more beetles or add families to the order only groups (like megaloptera)

Re: Entomology B/C
Oooo..they should add Geometridae as a family for Lepidoptera...make it even harder...
Well harder for me at least....Geometridae is kinda like Saturniidae...![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Re: Entomology B/C
I agree; the list and rules were both pretty good. The only change I could possibly anticipate for the rules is being allowed a binder, but I seriously doubt that would happen. There are already a few events that allow a binder, and I don't know that a field guide + a binder is necessary for ento. (Correct me if I'm wrong
)
They also might change some of the Ametabolous orders (the ones that have been declassified as insets due to internal mouthparts...)

Re: Entomology B/C
Maybe a few sheets of notes for the binder then? Cause the field guide really has ALMOST everything

Re: Entomology B/C
Last year, I used the Audubon and really liked it. It had the "correct" (according to the list) taxonomic scheme, and all the families on the list. The only thing that I found to be annoying was that the picures were arranged using appearance, not by order or family.scio444 wrote:What field guides worked well in the 2014 season?
What is everyone planning to use for the 2015 season?
Because of this, I didn't really use my field guide for ID (in my opinion, you shouldn't anyway, but everyone has a different system), just used my notes for ID and found facts in the guide. If I was really unsure on ID, I used the plate numbers next to each family on my notes and opened to the picture section and find a match, but I rarely had to do that.

Re: Entomology B/C
I used the NWF guide and I still think I will for the upcoming season because it's organized by order and family, the pictures are actually next to the descriptions and info, and also it's a lot easier to tab. Not to mention it has anatomy diagrams and I think a larger glossary? The only downside is some of the order names are different and I think a couple of the families are different too. If you want a more detailed description on the differences between the NWF and the official list, as well as some tips on how to tab it, feel free to PM me. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
