Generally physics events rotate out every two years, and this is the second year, so it is very likely true.phil9047 wrote:I heard that Circuit Lab might be disappearing next year. Is this true?

Awwww shucks. I'm in Shock Value and was really looking forward to Circuit Lab. Also, I heard they are replacing it with Optics; is this likely?
And how about MagLev?
And how about MagLev?
Sine functions are quite odd, to be honest.

Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C
MagLev is likely to rotate out as well. The Summer Institute agenda suggests that they will likely be replaced by Trajectory (possibly a variation from the past) and Its About Time.phil9047 wrote:Awwww shucks. Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C
At least in the past it involved both constructing a device to measure an interval of time as accurately as possible, as well as a written test, which to my understanding, was pretty much anything vaguely related to time. You could probably get more information if you want from the wiki or the old threads (2009 and 2010).phil9047 wrote:Sorry for being so off topic, but what is It's about time?

Could somebody help me with number 61 here? The answer should be D.

Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C
While the problem didn't state it, it's safe to assume this is a steady state situation (i.e. capacitors are fully charged up). Capacitor formulas are the opposite of resistor formulas. Thus the 2 capacitors in parallel equal 6 uf. For capacitors in series (like the resulting 6uf and 3uf ones) the total voltage difference from end to end is apportioned to each capacitor according to the inverse of its capacitance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor#Networks). Work through the math, and you find that the 3 uf will have twice the voltage of the 6uf, hence 8V out of the total of 12V.hexagonaria wrote:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B294Q9 ... sp=sharing

Hey im pretty much new to scioly and I'm planning to do circuit lab next year. I heard that they are going to replacing it. Is it true? and also, when will they post the new events for next year?

Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C
That is correct. MagLev and Circuit Lab will likely being replaced by Trajectory and Its About Time in the division C physics events. Technically events do not become official until this summer, but we have a pretty good idea early in the previous season. There is a thread where we have collected our knowledge on event rotations for next year.alwaysmatts wrote:Hey im pretty much new to scioly and I'm planning to do circuit lab next year.
