Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
On the double helix of the DNA ladder, which of the 3 major components of DNA make up the "steps" of the ladder?

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Two of the four nitrogen bases (Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine) joined together by weak hydrogen bonds form the "steps", if I'm correct.PicturePerfect wrote:On the double helix of the DNA ladder, which of the 3 major components of DNA make up the "steps" of the ladder?

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Thank you! I looked this up online and couldn't find the answer anywhere.... I could only find sites that told me what made up the backbone and nucleotides.vennowsah wrote:Two of the four nitrogen bases (Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine) joined together by weak hydrogen bonds form the "steps", if I'm correct.PicturePerfect wrote:On the double helix of the DNA ladder, which of the 3 major components of DNA make up the "steps" of the ladder?

No problem! Hate it when that happens... I got this off of a video on DNA replication.PicturePerfect wrote:Thank you! I looked this up online and couldn't find the answer anywhere.... Does anyone have any idea on what the state test might include? I heard last year's contained a lot of genetic disorders and cell division. What are some things to watch out for?

Not sure, vennosah, but you're probably right.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Have you guys found any good sites for studying heredity? I've found a few.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Well, DNA from the Beginning is a pretty good website for the basics, and this one is useful for the ABO blood types. If you want something more in depth, I would suggest going to a library and getting some books on genetics/heredity. There also some very good YouTube videos on DNA structure/replication.hmath729 wrote:Have you guys found any good sites for studying heredity? I've found a few.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
I'm pretty sure that the R-phase is the phase where the cell replicates DNA.Flavorflav wrote:They probably meant the R Pointhmath729 wrote:On my regionals this year, there was one question me and my partner couldn't answer. What is R phase of the cell life cycle?
Also, am I the only one that thinks Heredity seems sort of easy?
EDIT: Nevermind, that's the S-phase.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
It is pretty simple once you have all the DNA areas figured out. The only thing I had trouble with was pedigree analysis, but that can be mastered pretty easily with sufficient practice. I do hope it doesn't get too difficult at state though.Unome wrote: Also, am I the only one that thinks Heredity seems sort of easy?
