Lol, same here at least for me because most of my events are building events which I do at home, so I just walk around and annoy people.

Re: What do you do at practices?
We have a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday practices. Most of the time we also have a late stay on Friday that goes to 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM. The practices during the center of the week are an hour and a half long; which consist of 30 minutes of coach discussion, 30 minutes of teammate discussion, and 30 minutes of free time to study by yourself. I am a captain of my team and make sure that people don't mess around. Our coach spends the last 2 thirds of each day to helping a specific part of our team. Please respond if you have any questions.
Events I've Been In: Disease Detectives, Technical Problem Solving, Gravity Vehicle, Scrambler, Mission Possible, Air Trajectory, Robot Arm, Experimental Design, etc.

Re: What do you do at practices?
I am trying to think of ways to make our meetings more organized and productive so I was interested in hearing more about what you do exactly. During the 30 minutes of coach discussion, what does the coach talk about and what is the coach's role in running the club? Our club is primarily run by student officers right now. Also, what do students talk about during teammate discussion? Do they just discuss what they need to study for their events? Are your meetings similarly structured on Fridays?Miske wrote:We have a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday practices. Re: What do you do at practices?
Each of our events meets individually. The coach for each event picks a day and time for weekly meetings. I have Geologic Mapping/Rocks and Minerals from 6-7:30 and Bungee Drop from 7:30-8:30 on Tuesdays. Mission Possible mets from 11-12 on Saturday mornings in addition to some Wednesdays after school for several hours. In the building events we obviously build, test, and come up with new ideas. In testing events it just depends on what that event's coach has planned or wants to do. Sometimes we have powerpoints, lectures, review games, individual student presentations, and practice tests among others. Then during Spring Break we have team study parties where we spend several hours per day studying and reviewing.

Re: What do you do at practices?
I tend to see that in the middle school, the sixth graders run around a lot. The seventh graders stay with their events but look bored, while the eighth (that'd be me) and ninth graders get their work done. We've got whole team meeting and at least one meeting for each individual event (typically two hours). I like to come more than once when there are no specific meetings to get more building done.
...And, you know, get the 43 trials of Robocross I currently have.
...Second place at Case (Regionals) today.

huehuehuehuehuehuehue...
At Solon, we meet for 30 minutes every Thursday to eat the yummy homemade desserts (varies from chocolate caramel covered pretzels, multi-variety coookies, multi-variety mini cheesecakes, brownies, and other nutella/caramel covered delights) that one of our captain's moms bakes and other snacks. Then we spend like 5-10 talking about upcoming competition, and then we just chill for another half hour talking or eating more food. Sometimes we go to Menchies frozen yogurt shop and eat more food. Then we go home and eat dinner/play League of Legends. Profit?????? But seriously, SO meetings should be more about spending time and having fun with your teammates. While studying and practicing can almost be done anytime/anywhere, there are pretty specific requirements that need to be fulfilled before you can hold impromptu parties at your captain's house.

Re: What do you do at practices?
As for the coach discussion, our coach will let the events that have issues be known and seek ways to fix it.
The teammate discussion will be about giving assignments to one another and pushing progress.
During freetime, most people will study at a desk or work on their devices and note sheets.
