There really needs to be a "how I trashed my build just weeks/days/hours before the competition" thread in the build section of the forum. Man would I be a frequent contributor!

The rules state that "if the egg breaks on the first run, a second run must not be permitted". What if the egg breaks independently of a run - ie its dropped by the competitors or the egg is broken fastening it to the car or while loading the car in the launcher. Do you think that they could get another egg??

..Not that my team is clumsy and we've been goin through the eggs or anything!

From the experiences of other team members who have competed in the event before, my impression is that once you get the egg, if you break it you're out of luck, no matter how it happened.

So we just went to a comp way out in Ohio (I live in eastern PA) and my scrambler broke on the drive up just because of everything needing to get packed on a bus and someone was clumsy. Anyway I needed to do a quick fix before my first event and I just couldn't get it fixed well enough with what we had and we ended up tiered with a run violation. ANYWAY does anyone have any suggestions on cases for a car to keep it safe from rough handling?

I build a wooden case for mine and used some soft sponge to cushion it. For my mousetrap vehicle last year, I used a tool box (not sure if you could find a box large enough for a Scrambler) and used the same method of cushioning. Works quite well.

A suggestion that I would value more would be that you have a car carrying the builds. I think many schools would have any parents going to the tournament take all the builds because a car would offer a softer ride. My parents would usually try to take my builds for me, and even then Mission would often have problems.

We're using the wingnut system. A lot of friction is being created from the wingnut contacting the axle and the "barrier" to keep the wingnut from spinning (the back axle w/o the wingnut spins fine).
I've seen many cars that spin fast and freely with the wingnut, including the one on that YouTube video.
What am I doing wrong? Anyone have a way to fix this?

Which youtube video?

Anyways, have you tried graphite on the threads? That might help. There's a few more things, but I can't say for sure without more description. Is your wingnut held in place from both sides? If so those supports could be too close and it's got a lot of friction there. You really only need to capture it on one side, the half turn doesn't mean a lot yet.

One or two lines in the section labeled The Competition very clearly states that competitors are only allowed one egg. Any breakage during setup/run one is a competition violation.
