First, the DNA is denatured and annealed/primed, exposing the unknown sequence. Then, ddNTPs and dNTPs are mixed with the exposed sequence, and after they react, the products are separated by gel electrophoresis to reveal the sequence.

so its been a few days and no one has posted a reply, so i thought i would. sorry dont mean to step on any toes. here is a question: what are vntr? describe how they are used in genetic analysis.

VNTR (variable number tandem repeat) is where a nucleotide sequence repeats a varying number of times, depending on the individual. When several of these groups are analyzed independently, it provides a unique DNA fingerprint per individual (based on the number of repetitions). Therefore, it can be used in forensic science and other applications, as well as tracing heredity because it is an inherited trait.
