Re: MagLev C
Thanks for the help!
I also bought the 25 ohm and 3watt rheostat, but it isnt working for me (too much current at low resistances)
Do you guys know any website or have any links for a 25 ohm and and 20 watt rheostat?
I need anything with about 25 ohms and has a wattage rating above 15 watts.
Anything above 25 ohms is a bit too much resistance for me.
I recently bought an 8 ohm and 20 watt resistor from radioshack that I am going to try out. I might just by a ton of different resistors that way I can get consistency.

Re: MagLev C
Just wondering:
What has everyone been doing for motors?
I've found some from kelvin that work moderately well (cart still has issues though so it's not going anywhere with the motor atm).
Tried the fireball 13t motor, only it doesn't get going that fast (of the two we have, one works and it turns moderately fast on a 9V- the other seems to try to turn but gets stuck).
It's so frustrating in part because a lot of maglevs (from what I've seen on youtube and whatnot) seem to fly along the track- was it the case that a lot of those were usually light?
(i.e. example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU0nyz58z2c )
In particular, I was wondering where everyone was finding model helicopter/plane brushed motors from.

Some of the comments (from reading around) from last year mentioned getting a motor from an RC plane or helicopter that was a brushed motor.

Re: MagLev C
I think so, too.masser12 wrote:darkwinters I think the problem is your battery not the motor; you should try a lipo battery. the 9v battery doesn't have enough power to make the motor rotate.
I'll look into it. Thanks!

Re: MagLev C
Is anyone having a problem with their base wobbling too much. My motor was way too fast with a 7.4V Lipo, so I decided to just use 2 AA's. The car gets going and then starts wobbling and gets stuck
.
I have tried adjusting the magnets a million times, I just cant get a perfect balance.

I would recommend trying to lower the center of gravity of your vehicle.feynmanlover wrote:Is anyone having a problem with their base wobbling too much. My motor was way too fast with a 7.4V Lipo, so I decided to just use 2 AA's. The car gets going and then starts wobbling and gets stuck.

Re: MagLev C
UPDATE: So I was an idiot.
Reading around, 540 motors (of which the atomik 13t is a modified version) can draw 50 amps of power or more.
6 AA batteries in series, just from rough estimates, will get me notably less than 10 amps (I've yet to measure how much it is exactly, but I'm guessing around 3).
BRB, buying venom batteries
Right now, what I'm trying to do is make the board as close to the exact width of the track as possible, and then I'm going to try to align the magnets such that they're as close to being 'centered' over the magnetic rails as possible.

What do you mean by 'wobbling'? Is it tipping from one side to the other?feynmanlover wrote:Is anyone having a problem with their base wobbling too much. My motor was way too fast with a 7.4V Lipo, so I decided to just use 2 AA's. The car gets going and then starts wobbling and gets stuck.
