Re: Science Olympiad Classes
my school doesn't, and will probably never have an official one, but the coaches are trying to start another science class that they will turn into a science olympiad class
I am a practitioner of the art of magic known as science.
Re: Science Olympiad Classes
our school played around with the idea of having a class. we decided however that most people had full schedules already, and the number of people who would join were too small. It's a good idea, although most scioly topics are covered in classes you already take.

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
A science olympiad class is the death of science olympiad.
Science olympiad is about learning the art of learning. Yes, it means researching on your own, learning material from books, and exploring sites put together by organizations like NASA. There is nobody to teach the frontier of science. We define it. We will one day be the people to run the scientific communities, and that means that we need to be able to learn on our own, without the guidance that a teacher provides. Plus, how is competition fair if some schools can afford to pay teachers to teach a scioly class while others cannot?
Don't get me wrong, classes in general (bio, chem, physics, etc) are awesome for science and specifically scioly because they teach concepts but they don't teach to a test, or one simple event that really only ecompasses about .000000000015 of a field (aka, cell bio = .0000000000015 of real microbiology or cellular biology).
Finally, my team has one coach, no classes, and we have been able to do fine in the past, so it is definitely possible to do really really well while staying away from classes.

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
We don't have a class. I think that Science O is better meant as an after school activity, as it doesn't fit into a curriculum. I feel this same way for any club/team.
East Stroudsburg South Class of 2012, Alumnus of JT Lambert, Drexel University Class of 2017

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
See we had the class when the whole school had an mastery period. You know, like in middle school when you were assigned and extra reading, writing, or math class. Instead of one of those we had a SO mastery, this worked out great because mastery didn't have a curriculum, it was just an extra class.
SO stressed!
