Is that the reason? Or is it because Will North has now gone three straight years (I believe three times in a row sends a bonus team...it happened when Springville went for their 3rd time in '06 if my memory is correct).

Last year we (St. Joe's) only went because one of the other teams had been in it for multiple years

I thought you guys were 4th last year. Since there were over 30 teams last year, 4 went to states. Or were you 5th?

Oh, then maybe that's the reason why. I found out that Springville was being included as a bonus team, so I just assumed that was because they were only two points behind us. You're probably right that the reason they are going is because Will N. has gone three years in a row.

I believe that the rule is that if the first or second place team came in first or second the year before then you get a bonus team. I'm not quite sure, though.

Im new this year Science Olympiad. Is that why there are teams with A, B, C, and D? There was one team like that that kept winning in our invitationals...

I do believe that those are just different teams from the same school. But the rule is that each school is only allowed one team at the state competition.

We were fourth. Isn't it usually 1 team for every ten? I guess they round up, then.

Yes but no...I think it's either 2 for the first ten or 3 for the first 20. Because when we had fewer than 30 teams (in '06 and '07 it was in the mid twenties) it was 3. When it got above 30 it became 4.

It's something like that. Not sure if it's first or first and second or just making states, but there's definitely a rule like that. 3 years ago we ended up 3 points short of states in 5th place. It was that close.
