I disliked The Golden Compass. It was really against what I believe. I felt like the entire point of the book was to tell me how Christians are all hypocrites. Ok, yess, some people believe that. But, this is a "kids" book. A lot of people I'm sure, like me, read this thinking it was just a book, it's not gonna intentionally display one's beliefs in such a negative way.
Was your issue with the quality of the book itself, or were you just upset because it wasn't supporting what you believed? (I haven't read the book yet, and am just curious :P)

I disagreed with ANTHEM, but I listened to the points the book was trying to make.
I listened to Atlas Shrugged and I kinda somewhat agree with what she's saying but when you get the long ideological jargon, the plot is kinda crazy. I havent read Anthem or The Fountainhead, but I've head they were good.

I also never read the Golden Compass cause the plot seemed a bit silly to me.
Perfection. That’s what it’s about. It’s those moments. When you can feel the perfection of creation. The beauty of physics, you know, the wonder of mathematics. The elation of action and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to.

Eh, I may give it a glance...but I heard the movie stunk, and I'm assuming that I'm out of the "age range" the book was originally meant for. :P

@Guava: Yeah, ANTHEM was pretty dull...and once you dig deeper, you begin to question exactly what she's trying to say (It'll take you about an hour to read though, so it won't kill you :P ). She poses some interesting points though, it's just that she goes a little to far with it. I found "Animal Farm" much better though, because you sort of get to "pick a side" (I'd discuss this further, but I don't wanna give anything away).

Political novels don't bug me. Maybe because I really don't care about politics.

By this I mean I don't choose sides Republican, Democrat, Communist? None of them are perfect, and, well, never mind.

Over Sea Under Stone, the book STUNK. It has no plot, and no action until the last chapter. Even that makes no sense because the change was so abrupt. It was worse, and I'm risking my reputation by saying it, Twilight.
I bet you had to read this twice

Surviving the Applewhites is such a cute book! I read it in fifth grade for a Battle of the Books, and it was one of my favorites.... :x

I personally hated the Eragon series. The names get confusing after a while, and Christopher Paolini stubbornly insisted on describing in detail, every single character...no wonder the last book was so thick.

I rarely have the patience to read fantasy books with a large cast of characters and weird made-up languages, but Eragon managed to hold my attention. And I realize that it's not for everybody, but I enjoyed the descriptions - every time I thought, "I wonder what that looks like?" , it was like, here, have a paragraph-long description.
The author's also nice enough to write back to every fan that writes to him, (I still have the letter he sent back to me. =)
Personally, my worst book has been Tears of a Tiger. We had to read it in eighth grade, and the entire thing is about teen suicide, with a lovely 1st person string-of-thought at the end, as the main character shoots himself. We finished on Friday, and to deal with the trauma, they brought in our counselors. On Monday.
