I used notebooks in high school. I don't think you really need a laptop or iPad in high school if you have computer access at home. However, since they're more necessary in college, I'd say I prefer a laptop. But it's really up to you which one you like better and whether or not you need one for high school.

Neither. Laptops and Tablets aren't really useful for high school and they often get stolen or damaged in some way or another while your on campus.

I would wait till college until I consider purchasing and I-pad or laptop (purchase a laptop, because you'll get more work done on them).

I never took notes in high school (...bad influence), but I'd recommend a laptop - you need it for college and they're easier to write papers on. Computers are useful in general. I wouldn't recommend getting a cheap, crappy netbook, though - for those you definitely get your money's worth. Get a laptop that will last at least a few years, and it's even better if you have a younger sibling - you can pass the computer on to them when you head off to college, and then you can get yourself a nice shiny new computer for a new school.

The thing with iPads is that the inherent nature of Apple mobile devices is pretty limited, and that would, personally, frustrate me. (Note: I have a Macbook Air, so Apple's design isn't what frustrates me; it's their mobile design - which works fine on an iPhone - that would frustrate me on what is essentially a giant iTouch.) Other tablets may be better, but I would still prefer typing on a keyboard rather than a touch screen any day.

Same here

I'd reccomend a laptop. I've done notes on both my MacBook and iPad and definitely prefer having the physical keyboard. Though I will say neither became very useful in high school. Unless your teacher are planning on accommodating students with laptops(provide digital versions of everything) then laptops won't be very useful. Also while you will need at least a laptop for college, that shouldn't be a major factor in deciding to get one when you're entering high school. Any laptop you get now will be outdated, or at least almost, by the time you're in college.
