Re: Experimental Design
Here's the wiki http://scioly.org/wiki/Experimental_Design theres a whole directory on the front page under the event forums, and above the general chat ones. Oh theres also some practice trials on the bottom of the wiki they aren't the best in the world but they will help.
SO stressed!

Re: Experimental Design
Yeah. I'm not on this event (but I had a schedule conflict with my beloved Dynamic Planet, so I have to switch, hopefully to this one), but I've heard that they're not looking for someone to cure cancer or make a nucleur reactor out of post-it notes, marbles, and a ruler. They want really basic stuff. Which is good for us anyway, considering the time restriction.
Science Olympiad is a tribute to Murphey's Law. This has been proven experimentally.
And no, I'm not a guy...even though my sig says will robsinson. It's a reference to Lost in Space, an ancient sci fi TV show. And the robot is the character who always says the line.

Yeah, you'll need to maximize the use of your time. Having three people is extremely helpful.

Re: Experimental Design
i know how the to do the measure of central tendency, variation, and regression analysis, but the "other appropriate statistic used" i'm stumped on, i need just a few suggestions to get going.

Re: Experimental Design
hold up...what's central tendency? and by variation, do you just mean range and standard deviation?

Re: Experimental Design
I would actually agree with your coach on this one. You may or may not have the rules near you when performing this event. Fortunately, the format of the final result should never really change. Know what you need to include, and be sure to be very clear - if a judge can't find a part of your lab, you will not get the points. And as we all know, we like points in Experimental.seriouslysuza wrote:I think it sounds really cool! My couch's suggestion is that you memorize the rubric so you know not to leave out anything. It's pretty cool. We did a pratice design and it was pretty fun. It's my second favorite event this year!
