Re: Write It Do It B/C
The odds of Write It Do It cycling out are very slim, given that it has essentially been an event since the Cretaceous period. Not even a mass extinction event can get rid of it.

Robot Arm ---> Mission Possible
Gravity Car ---> Scrambler

You really don't need to have twins or best friends to do WIDI, I didn't know my partner very well in the event and we did VERY well in this event. I think that the real key is to get two people who are on the same level mentally. We both had the same strengths and weaknesses in school. we also had similar personalities. all the partners have to be able to do is understand each others speech patterns.

At our regionals someone asked that exact question, and the supervisors said it was fine. But definitely ask before doing it.JustDroobles wrote:I would not do anything that breaks the spirit of the rules, which is to give directions solely in written English to guide your partner to build the object. There should be no need to use arrows. If you want to refer to earlier steps, you should number your steps and then refer to them as "Step 1" or "Step 2" later on.sjwon3789 wrote:So basically, the rule states what we write must be something from keyboards, right?
So would arrows be allowed because if you use < and -, then that's basically an arrow...
Or maybe 1 and backwards 1? (if backyard 1 is allowed?)
Because sometimes, there's times when it's better to state some information earlier on than later...
I was wandering what your opinion would be about this.
I do not think a backwards 1 would be allowed or useful. It is not on a standard keyboard.

Ah, but not nearly as important as making weird structures out of foam balls, push pins, paper clips, Legos, pipe cleaners, and paper cups, right?Gemma W wrote:After all, communication is an important scientific skill.

Re: Write It Do It B/C
I usually practice with legos, rulers, strings, and weird things. My partner once wrote 30 steps for me to do. I'd say the average one I have to do is 20ish steps. At invitationals, all that was on my desk was a styrofoam cup, 2 pipe cleaners, and 4 beads. With only 7 steps, It was easier than the one I did on my first day of practice. I have never been to regionals before, so can someone tell me what the write it do it is like there?

Re: Write It Do It B/C
At my location, it was basically the picture available in Wiki ->Test. Not EXACTLY but just some version of it. It was basically all legos with paper clips and beads within it.
What it looked like is, there was a rectangle and another rectangle on top of it (on the edges). It was easy but I messed up...My friend was capable of finishing the first rectangle but not the other one. Surprisingly, we placed 3rd.
Um...are you sure your allowed to use rulers?

Re: Write It Do It B/C
I don't use one as a tool or anything, unless my coach gives us one for the thing I have to build. I like them, because if there is a paper clip somewhere on the ruler or something, my partner will write "put paper clip at the 4 inch mark." It's easy. The one at invitationals didn't have a ruler.sjwon3789 wrote:At my location, it was basically the picture available in Wiki ->Test. Not EXACTLY but just some version of it.
