If you do anything like that, including a few measurements helps, too. The easiest ground for penalty is having a protrusion that makes the box greater than the size limit. A team I know got stung by this at State last season, and it was quite unfortuante.Jkwashbourne wrote:Hi Chalker, an off topic question. We are doing this for the first time this year, and the comments in other threads are making us nervous about being disqualified. Any chance we could take a few pictures and get someone with experience to tell us if we made any obvious goofs? Thanks in advance, John.

Re: Final Task
Just wondering, if the intent of the task is to have a specific size piece of wood not fall over, if you could make your own? I don't see anywhere in the rules where it says the dominoes have to be commercially-made.hambone2003 wrote:I am having trouble finding dominoes that are small enough to meet the maximum size requirement listed in the rules. The ones we have were slightly smaller than standard, and I believe they came from a dollar store. Cheap ones are usually smaller.

Re: Final Task
I think the weight of the dominoes matters, so if you have to make your own, I think you would at least need the weight to be the same.

Final Task
Hi there,
I am new here. Please help me: In the final task, does it require the 9V battery and/or the dominoes have to stay on the platform at the end? What happens if they all fall down at the end, do we get 200 pts for the task and 0 pt for the battery and/or dominoes?
Thank you very much

Re: Final Task
You have to lift the 9V and the 10 dominoes to get the 200 pts. I think you get extra for keeping the dominoes standing.

From the link you posted:chalker wrote:The size in the rules was based upon what we thought were 'standard' size dominos (see this page for example specs: http://www.domino-games.com/faq/Domino-Sizes.html). The 'standard sized' are too long. That leaves only the mini size as legal. Please correct me if I am wrong.Dominoes are available in various sizes, including the following:
Mini Dominoes - About 1-3/16" long by 9/16" wide by 3/16" thick
Standard Dominoes - About 1-7/8" long by 15/16" wide by 1/4" thick
Professional Dominoes - About 2" long by 1" wide by 3/8" thick
Jumbo Dominoes - About 2" long by 1" wide by 1/2" thick
Tournament Dominoes - 2-3/16" long by 1-3/32" wide by 1/2" thick

The rules call for 4.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 0.8 cm. about 1 7/8" x 2.54 cm / inch = 4.76 cm (i.e. technically 2.6 mm too big), but the key is the 'about' part. If you are really concerned about it, sand down both ends about a mm. If this is a major issue, feel free to submit a clarification on soinc.org and we might bump up the dimension a little bit. We intended for 'standard' dominoes to be utilized.

Re: Final Task
I don't think so.Platinum wrote:Thank you for your answer. Do we still get 200 pts if the 9V battery and the dominoes fall off the platform at the end?
