Re: Forensics C
Difficulty depends on how much effort you give. As for hands on, I'd say yes, judging by the rules. (But then again, I've never been in this event before, until now.)strikerbear10 wrote:How hard is this event? Is most of it hands on at the competitions????
EDIT: Can we bring notes to this event? I'm looking at the rules and don't see anything about notes.
EDIT: Word choice change

Re: Forensics C
I'd consider Forensics one of the harder events, just because of the sheer amount of work you have to accomplish in 50 minutes, especially at higher levels of competition. That said, it's very manageable as long as both partners have a good idea of what they're doing. And yes, it is a very hands-on event - lots of lab work with reactions, flame tests, microscopes, and other things.strikerbear10 wrote:How hard is this event? I've never seen an actual textbook for Forensics (though I'm sure they do exist); I get nearly all of my notes from the internet. Just googling "forensics [specific topic you want to search for]" will bring up loads of good links.sciolyynerdd wrote:hii!!

You're allowed one 8.5x11 page, double sided (2.a.xv).Cedavis6 wrote:EDIT: Can we bring notes to this event? I'm looking at the rules and don't see anything about notes.

Re: Forensics C
What specifically do I need to learn for Forensics that wasn't in Crime Busters? I don't mean "there are more powder samples" etc. I mean completely different subtopics.

Re: Forensics C
Do you need equipment for kits or do you need samples of the chemicals and polymers?Cedavis6 wrote:Where may I get supplies for this event?

This is a good site for chemical and polymer kits:
http://www.competitiveedgescience.com/products.html
For equipment such as flame loops, pipettes, test tubes, etc., you may have to shop online or ask your school chemistry teachers for them. I don't know that many good resources for that off the top of my head other than what I just listed ...

Re: Forensics C
I would like to organize a Forensics Wiki help day next week, all day long. If you are interested, please PM me, and I'll try to find something that you can do.
