I think it would be rather simple to make gears with wood and hot glue. I built my paddlewheel in this way last year, and it worked rather well.

I am wondering, how do you find the IMA of a lever system. I scoured GOOGLE, but nothing camje up with a definate answer. I know how to find it in general, but I have no clue on how it applies to lever systems.

Think of if like a composition of functions- If one lever's mechanical advantage is given by f(x) = 6x, and the other lever in the system (whose input arm is acted upon by the last lever's output arm) has mechanical advantage given by g(x) = 2x, the total is f(g(x)) or 12x. X being the input force on the first lever.

Caveat- the "input arm" and "output arm" are not necessarily on different arms, they'll be on the same arm / side of the fulcrum if they're part of a 2nd or 3rd class lever. They'd just be different "input areas" on the levers.

what constitutes a homemade? because I just molded a K'Nex gear with clay and then pour melted plastic into the mold, would that count as "homemade", cause I made it?

First thought that comes to mind for the air task would be a balloon filled with air that can be released to do some sort of work.
