I've heard that Weber lost a coach this year, so maybe there will be a new champion in Western Long Island? Wisdom Lane perhaps?

I believe that he is coming back to help coach actually. In addition, another teacher is taking a position as coach and 10th and 9th graders might be coming back to help coach. So, is Weber losing a coach? Not really, but lezbehonest, Mr. Grande was the driving force of that team.

Concerning the top five, FM looks really set. It kinda just looks like they will win again this year. But for second place? Ward Melville won by 33 points last year and 19 points the year before that--that looks like they are set. But Syosset beat Columbia by 78 points two years ago, and only 1 point last year. Going by that, it seems very possible that WM might suffer an upset this year by either of those teams.

Looking at the building event results, it looks like every top ten team EXCEPT for Syosset made top five in at least one building event. Syosset received 140 points from building events alone (including SoM)...which is about 45.75% of their total score. In comparison, FM received 35 points total, WM received 104 (even though I have heard stories about something going wrong with Heli...), Columbia had 64 points, and Half Hollow Hills had 75. Based on that, it looks like Syosset could easily take second place if their building events improved.

The same can be said for Columbia--they could overtake second place, but they would have to improve more overall, not solely in one area.

Foreverphysics, I'd say those was an extremely accurate predictions. I was actually really surprised. The difference actually between us and syosset was the medal count. They had 2 golds 2 silvers and 1 bronze, where we had 2 golds, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals, I believe just flat scores without medals we tied last year. This year it's really between Ward/Syosset and Columbia, but to be honest, Ward's been slowly falling if you ask me, and this year I expect to see us, or syosset in second place. Haha if you have any other stats for me, feel free to let me know. Stats are fun.

All of the data she used can be found on newyorkscioly.org. You're right, stats are fun...It is neat to see how different teams have risen and fallen in different areas over the years.

Exactly. In my school, there is basically a group of 6 or 7 people that made our team go to states. All of our 9 medals were won by that group. We have only won 1 medal in a building event in my history, and we usually don't do well in building events.

It was a misunderstanding between Harold Miller and some of my teammates who went to watch. Nothing to do with the actual event though.

As I just said, Weber did not lose a coach. Mr. Grande, Weber's head coach simply retired but he is still coaching the Science Olympiad team.

Wow...it was my coach who told me you guys lost a coach, when I asked her how she thought Weber was going to do this year.
