What do you mean, "messed up"? :? Since it's nats, "messing up" can't be that bad. I mean, 1st and 2nd is awesome!

For us, I don't think any 9th grader has ever stayed with B. For you, is it because the high school team stinks?

Loyalty I guess

Post by zbuilder »

Our B team was/is extremely competitve but a very close group, a real team rather than just a group of people. I think the only way someone would opt to go to C before 10th grade would be if they weren't invited back on their B division team. There were a few kids who weren't invited back and they did join their C division B team in 9th grade. I think there also may be some unwritten law that the C division coaches in our area will not ask for a student who has been invited back to his/her B division team to join their C division team.

My C division team is also very competitive, they have gone to Nationals every year I have been in SO (4 years, I am not sure about their record befor 05) and we expect to go again this year (although we are in a very competitve region and state). Our area has open enrolement schools, so you get to pick what high school you go to. Many kids pick the high school I am in partly because of it's very good SO team (although it is an extremely good high school for other reasons too).

As to the messing up, I mean that I had problems with a few events. My tower was damaged in transit and I did not repair it very well so it scored poorly. My Robo broke at the last second so my score went from finishing in 30-45 seconds to finishing in 2:30, I guess I still did OK though (I think like 12th or 13th). When I say messed up I don't mean to make excuses but that I didn't do as well as I know I could do. I am OK with comming in 25th place if I did my best, but Robo and tower really hurt because they were both potential medal winners. It seems like one ot two events always "mess up", but I am sure the same thing happens to others kids, so it all works out.

That would be me :P I'm currently trying out for the Mira Loma Scioly team since my middle school, Churchill, didn't invite me back. We had more than 15 8th graders, 10 on the A team and the rest on the B team, on the team last year so the 9th graders were a hard pick for my B coach.

My High School bases on seniority. So, I am on the B team, and I have to prove myself.

Well, last year we were similar, we were a very close-knit group. We probably weren't as competitive as you guys, but we were okay for being in PA. However, all of us eighth graders decided that we had done our job at our middle school, and that we would try to get the C team to states for the first time in school history. (They came close last year, 9th at regionals and top 7 go to states.) We had the opportunity to go back if we wanted, but decided not to, and our coach was okay with that.

One thing we were thinking of trying was that if our C team misses states and the B team makes it, me and a couple other ninth graders would participate with the B team at states. However, our (former) coach has not gotten clarification on the rule that says that people cannot compete with both B and C teams as to whether it refers to the entire year or for just one competition, so if anyone knows what the full rule is, than please tell us! Thanks in advance. :)

Hah, on our team we call those "explosions". We figure that at least one building event will explode at competition, even if all of them are amazing going in. Happens to everyone.

No medals my freshman year (came close with 8th in Sounds), but last year I got 2nd in health science. (other events 9th, 10th, and 17th) I'll remember that moment for a while... :)

Third in both Wheeled Vehicle and Mission Possible. For B division that is.
Zbuilder, when did you get that 2nd place in Wheeled Vehicle? If was at Kansas, that was when I got my 3rd place. That was such a competetive day for the top spots. Do you remember your time and distance?

I do not remember if it was at Kansas, and I do know that they did not post scores that year, but the Event Coordinator said that I had zero distance error. Time error was almost zero (perhaps 0.5 percent). What got me was aiming error. I went right of center about 1-2 cm on both runs, just didn't seem to be able to correct the aim. I was always curious what kind of errors the winner got, was it just a little better or was he spot on on all three (distance, time and aim).
