National Results Discussion
Thoughts on the national results? I think everyone did a great job

Re: National Results Discussion
I thought that the total scores were insanely low. 186 for 2nd? That would have been 1st last year by 11 points. Science Olympiad is only getting more competitive which makes me wonder how future competitions bring. Also, I did not think a 3 minute chinook would be possible. However, in Science Olympiad, almost anything is possible.

Re: National Results Discussion
(I'm going on a posting spree right now)
I was sorely disappointed by my results, as well as our teams. It was just so depressing to be shooting so high, and then crash and burn.
But as for the results, I was so sure that Marie Murphy was going to win B, and then after looking at results, found out they lost by 62 to Solon in the end.
Will be interested how "home-field advantage" will affect teams next year.

Re: National Results Discussion
Japan will be sending a team (the national champions in their country) again to the next national Science Olympiad, but this time they will be competing. I'm thinking that they will break Solon High School's three year winning streak at nationals next year.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I think you're overestimating them. Coming to a different country is going to be tough.

Re: National Results Discussion
I'd be interested in what effect English-as-a-foreign-language will have, if any. For example, there's a student at my school who moved from Viet Nam two years ago, and who speaks English fluently, but sometimes has trouble on tests because the very technical language involved in science is not necessarily emphasized in English-as-a-foreign-language classes abroad.

Re: National Results Discussion
I think the biggest advantage that teams from the states will have is the fact that the tests are only in English (at least I think so).

Re: National Results Discussion
By the way, where did you hear that the Japanese team will in fact compete for points next year? I don't recall this ever being said at either of the nationals ceremonies.
