I think the only way someone would opt to go to C before 10th grade would be if they weren't invited back on their B division team. There were a few kids who weren't invited back and they did join their C division B team in 9th grade.
Well, last year we were similar, we were a very close-knit group. We probably weren't as competitive as you guys, but we were okay for being in PA. However, all of us eighth graders decided that we had done our job at our middle school, and that we would try to get the C team to states for the first time in school history. (They came close last year, 9th at regionals and top 7 go to states.) We had the opportunity to go back if we wanted, but decided not to, and our coach was okay with that.
One thing we were thinking of trying was that if our C team misses states and the B team makes it, me and a couple other ninth graders would participate with the B team at states. However, our (former) coach has not gotten clarification on the rule that says that people cannot compete with both B and C teams as to whether it refers to the entire year or for just one competition, so if anyone knows what the full rule is, than please tell us! Thanks in advance.
