Amphibians and Reptiles

I'm going to have TONS of post it notes in my guide. My field guide decided to leave out all the stuff on anatomy, behavior, and diet so i'm going to have to add that plus other things that i cant think of right now. It's going to end up being so messy and unorganized with all these post it notes. plus, theres like no room to add anything in my field guide. I find it odd how they allow you to make a guide in fossils but no amphibians

we just used the internet and other field guides. adw is really useful

does anyone think its a good idea to color code the pictures in the front of the field guide? its already easy to find stuff, but it seems a good way to help, because im not very good at this event.....

um...

i wud suggest that u + ur partner memorize all the pix. its 2 much flipping through pages, otherwise u'll end up answering only 1/2 the questions cuz u won't have the time....

oh yeah, + the guy who did the Amphibians part last time crammed like, the night before competition + we still got 3rd at states, so if u havnt done much memorizzation, ur probably fine... (then again, he was a super-genius... so who knows...)

i would also suggest that u use ur field guide stictly 4 info, cuz otherwise its kinda too much flipping 2do.

There is no field guide that has even CLOSE to enough information without annotation of some sort. Also you should spend enough of your time memorizing and practicing ID that you don't really want to have to look at pictures to help (that takes too much time, you should be using time on questions, not ID). Really you need to have several times the amount of information that is in any of the field guides in order to have a really good resource.

Just a warning, but they sometimes won't let you have sticky notes or any additions to the field guide. I know it depends on who is giving the test and if they even read the official rules, but when we went to the Athens Invitational, the herpetology proctor refused to let my partner and I into the room unless we ripped out all of our sticky notes and whatnot. It was really frustrating, since we spent hours working on it, and the proctor obviously had not read the rules, since the rules state that we are allowed to add notes to our field guides.
But just a heads up for everyone!

Was the supervisor kind of a tall, lanky guy, late 50's or so, with a bit of a stoop?

I always bring my rules with me to each and every event that way if the supervisor hasnt seen the rules i can show them and argue it right on the spot.

Yes, i'm on galvin which is indeed in wakefield And what i mean by that you cant make a guide is that you are no longer allowed to bring a binder to the event. Instead, you have to bring a published guide such as Peterson or Audubon Are you going to the oak invitational tomorrow? See you there and/or at states!!

Crap. That's the guy that runs our Herps at our regional. I know he was at Athens, and he always runs the ID event at regionals, so he probably would have asked for it at Athens. Well, forewarned is forearmed - thanks for the tip.
