Re: Robot Arm C
Right, no impound for this event, but I would think that the event supervisor would tell everyone if the bonus box is left or right before the first team goes and it'll be the same for all the teams.

Re: Robot Arm C
Thanks, just wanted to make sure I understood everything. I was a bit worried I was going to make the arm even longer (or add some form of linear movement to the base) to reach the bonus bin from the center instead of a corner. Obviously I will not have to.

I'm only say this based on what I've seen. Always check with your tournament director to make sure.

New York is impounding anyway, the night before. You really kind of have to if you are going to put 50 teams through in a reasonable amount of time.lordgonk wrote:Thanks! Sounds good, but I thought the rules said no impound.

Re: Robot Arm C
What do the judges do with the impounded robots that speeds thing up? I generally feel that it isn't worth the risk and hassle to impound a device (in any event) unless absolutely necessary.Flavorflav wrote:New York is impounding anyway, the night before. Re: Robot Arm C
Funny, we had a 30 min discussion on this last night. Impound will speed things up if: decent amount of time between the beginning of impound and the running of the event and the tournament directors are okay with the event supervisors inspecting the devices while the students aren't present. In this case, it's clear that they have the entire night to inspect the devices.....but there only an advantage if they're okay with inspection while the teams aren't there or maybe they have different call times for each time the night before, so impound spreads over more than an hour?
Or maybe, their event supervisors/tournament directors really want to get everything in line and be ready to go first thing in the morning.

Yup, that about sums up Mr. Boyd and Mr. Miller. (We love Harold.)bearasauras wrote:Or maybe, their event supervisors/tournament directors really want to get everything in line and be ready to go first thing in the morning.
They do an incredible job; they just insist upon following procedure to a T.

Re: Robot Arm C
Just wondering, how far is the farthest school from the tournament? Or rather, doesn't it require the farther schools from the tournament to get an extra night stay in the hotel?

Re: Robot Arm C
Yeah, I love Harold too, but I would be concerned about checking the teams' devices in (in any event) without them present, hence my not seeing much time saving in an overnight impound.bearasauras wrote:Funny, we had a 30 min discussion on this last night. Re: Robot Arm C
Maybe by doing impound the night before, they can do more than the typical 1 hour of impound that you normally get the morning of. If your impound is say 2 hours, you can impound and check all the teams' devices while the teams are still there.
