Formulas Not Displaying in Event Wikis
HELP!
Formulas are not displaying in the event wikis, such as Optics. Instead of F=ma (for instance), a maddening little empty box is displayed.
Below is a link to a likely explanation.
I don't believe I can fix the pages... I think the authors must do the change?
The link says the change was effective 11/30/2011. The solution is to remove the text "dreamhost." from all the links, to convert a link from mimetex to LaTex...
Here is the link, and a copy of the information at the link:
http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.html says:
—— Important Notice ——
f o r p u b l i c m i m e T e X w e b s e r v i c e u s e r s
mimeTeX's ISP no longer permits subdomains.
That means your <img> tags of the form
<img src="http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/mimete ... rt{a^2+b^2}" >
will not work after November 30, 2011.
Change them all to
<img src="http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.cgi?c=\sqrt{a^2+b^2}" >
That is, just remove the "dreamhost." from all tags.
That works now. And the pesky message that brought you here disappears.
To repeat, the address of the public mimeTeX server is now
http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.cgi
so write tags of the form
<img src="http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.cgi?c=\sqrt{a^2+b^2}" >
to access it. Thanks.
I'm sorry if this change is inconvenient, particularly for mediawiki or other
users who may not even know their application's LaTeX plugin uses mimeTeX.
Just edit your plugin and remove "dreamhost." from any <img> tag that contains it,
as illustrated above.
Or contact http://dreamhost.com/contact/ with any complaints, as I can't change
the situation, and dreamhost refused my request to make an exception for mimeTeX.

Re: Formulas Not Displaying in Event Wikis
Darling, it's called "web filters". Ever heard of it? That is most likely the problem, trust me. It shows up fine as long as you don't have uber-strict filters (such as in school). And I am assuming you're at school, judging by the fact that a) you are in B Division, and b) you posted this at 10 am. Which would explain the whole not-showing-up thing. Don't worry, honey. It'll go away when you go home.

Re: Formulas Not Displaying in Event Wikis
Actually, Nordonia is right, there have been a few problems with the LaTeX and that is most likely the cause. Most of the math portions of the wiki are still readable, but not nearly as nice as they used to be. Finals and such have delayed the fix, but it should be fixed sometime soon.

If you inspect a "broken" LATEX image then you'll get the following result (taken from haverstall's Userpage):
There's still a 'dreamhost' in it...<img class="tex" src="http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/mathte ... rt%7B-1%7D" alt="LaTeX: \sqrt{-1}"/>

School filters wouldn't restrict LATEX unless they wanted to filter images of math symbols. Even if it did the places where LATEX was inserted would probably have an image saying "content blocked by..." etc.Darling, it's called "web filters". Ever heard of it? It's blocked. Trust me. I know. I have to hack a bit to get ANYTHING to work.fishman100 wrote:School filters wouldn't restrict LATEX unless they wanted to filter images of math symbols. Funny, because I remember you saying that you don't hack.
So that's what you were doing on the bus...

No, not really. I just didn't shut down my computer. So the web pages were saved.SciBomb97 wrote:Funny, because I remember you saying that you don't hack.

Also, I distinctly remember telling you that I knew (somewhat) how to hack. Believe it or not, the school computers irritate the heck out of me. I usually don't, but there are special exceptions...

Alright, so maybe it is blocked at your school...but there's still something wrong with LATEXforeverphysics wrote:It's blocked. Trust me. I know. Re: Formulas Not Displaying in Event Wikis
It was an issue with LaTex, not an issue with it being blocked.
It has been fixed
