Re: Storm the Castle B
Rule 3.e is the "energy rule", which has often been a source of confusion and clarifications. This year the rules explicitly mention that we'll have more details of it on soinc.org. We've just posted the "Storm the Castle Energy Rule Tip Sheet for 2012" to the Storm the Castle event page(http://soinc.org/storm_the_castle_b), which provides such details.
If someone has some spare time, it might be helpful to add this to the wiki.

I'm not doing StC this year because I'm in Div C now, I just wanted to know what the winners had.chalker wrote:JSGandora wrote:lol, oops. Sorry, but I can't find the distances in any of the links he provided?
FYI, it you are looking at the distances from last year to use as some sort of goal for this year, I wouldn't. We changed enough things in the rules to make it likely that the distances will all be shorter.

Re: Storm the Castle B
Hi! I am not sure how to do this as it is my first post. Can anyone guide me on the treb distance? Since the room is not guaranteed to be any larger than 12 m, should we try to make a treb that shoots 12 m, or is there an advantage to shooting a good bit further if possible? Thanks!

Wait, do the rules state that the room is not guaranteed to be any larger than 12 m? If it does, I would assume that event coordinators will have larger rooms because 12 meters isn't that long.

There's nothing in the official rules that says anything about a guaranteed room size, let along mentions 12M. Perhaps you've gotten some tournament specific guidance somehow? Regardless, you should pay close attention to rule 5.a.ii. If the projectile hits the far wall, the supervisor estimates the height up the wall and adds that to the distance from the wall to the target. Thus you don't want to 'overshoot' the room, since you'll get a worse score.

Re: Storm the Castle B
This is where it helps to know your competition sites.
If they have a small gym, be ready to make some adjustments.
Also; a HS basketball court is ~ 28m so, hopefully, competitions will strive to have at least 25m available.
12m seems a little small. (like shooting across a basketball court).
ps. the 12m is from the North Carolina website. This is a State Specific clarification. http://www.sciencenc.com/event-help/stormthecastle.php
