Re: Site features? (again)
Karma systems are usually like this:
No post count star system.
Stars or Color bar or whatever is based on your Karma.
Karma is gained when other users like your posts and lost when they dislike the posts.
Sometimes other users' abilities to influence karma is proportional to their own karma or how long they have been registered or something.
So the appeal is that, in theory, only users who post genuinely useful information would have the "4 star" equivalent...as opposed to the post count system, which only indicates participation.
This was suggested a lot over on OBB, but Jim would have had to actually code it since there was no mod community for OBB. If karma sounds interesting, we might be able to find a mod we liked for it.

Re: Site features? (again)
No, even the mods (who have actual accounts) see the "new" even after they look at it. Unfortunately, 4images just doesn't track that.
The only option we have is to set the number of days that the "new" appears. Right now it is 10 days, which is probably too long...
Would having a larger number of images in the "New Images" section of the front page help?
Should there be a separate page for a large chronological listing of new images?
Just a shorter "new" period?

yea a separate page would make it easier, cause people usually upload 10 pictures at once.

I can do a variation on this (or this exactly ) pretty easily:
http://sciolyor.ipower.com/4images/newindex.php
That's the last 60 images that have been uploaded.
