You know that you are a nerd when:
When you read 1984 when you were twelve.
When you read All Quiet On The Western Front when you were 13.
When you memorized the author's opening quote for All Quiet On The Western Front.
When you are going to start reading Stranger In A Strange Land When You Are 13.
When you are upset that the algebra 1 textbook that you are using has mistakes in it, a bar graph with intervals (a histogram should have been used) and saying that no number can be divided by 0 (

is true since division is the inverse of multiplication).

Re: You Know You're A Nerd When...
Ohhhhhh boy somebody please change the subject or this will start some sort of debate...
Reminds me of in preschool when my friends and I were debating what the biggest number was. I thought it was a googol, but some other guy said that a googolplex is bigger. So then I thought of a googolplex-plex! It was a monumental discovery, and we told all the other kids that we had come up with the biggest number ever! It was fun.
Math is useless without application. The meaning of 0 in a denominator means different things in different applications. For example: what is my velocity if I move 0 meters in 0 seconds? How many miles has my car travelled if it consumes 0 miles per gallon and I've used 0 gallons? In some situations it is best to say that 0/0 is undefined, and that math involving 0 in a denominator cannot be done meaningfully. In other situations it is best to say that the solution can be any number in the real set, or in other situations the imaginary set, or the set of positive numbers. I don't know any situation where the solution can be said to be exactly 0, but nevertheless it depends. Just don't try to use it for anything algebraic.

When you have a this clock: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/ac3f/and you argue that the 9 o'clock time is wrong because 3(∏-.14) = 9.004777963797153879301498385...., not 9. (seriously, this was in a classroom at an old school I was at and about 20 kids in the algebra class argued this same point.)

Re: You Know You're A Nerd When...
the difficult thing with this is that we all believe x/x=1 and 0/x=0 and x/0= undefined so we have three rule that contradict each other.TheGenius wrote:You can't divide zero by zero.space scientist wrote: When you are upset that the algebra 1 textbook that you are using has mistakes in it, a bar graph with intervals (a histogram should have been used) and saying that no number can be divided by 0 (is true for

When the first thing you think of doing over summer is study high school and college math (I just finished seventh grade) and study college physics plus all your events for scioly.

When, as an eight-year-old, you construct an argument about why a bazillion is in fact a number, rather than admitting that you made up a number.
Answer:
1.there is an infinite number of numbers.
2. there are a finite number of letters.
3. therefore, the combination 'bazillion' is, by default, a combination that will eventually have to be designated to a number. It just hasn't yet.
