Re: Wind Power C
A three blade design would only be strong if you can get the three blades evenly apart from each other. It's not worth the trouble imo.whadk wrote:From my experience, using McDonald Coffee cup was the best choice for my wind blades. The highest I've ever gotten was like 2100 or,,, 2.1
i had two blades (though I recommend 3 because some law,,, idk,,,? states that 3 blades the best for that,, whatever)
and used balsa wood (wow) to connect the blades to the CD. Went pretty darn well though,,,
WITH
A HECK A LOT OF adjustments,, that's all
Of course it's volts, are you able to get 3.24 V on a 5 ohm? (that would theoretically yield 2.1 watts)ichaelm wrote:Is that number in volts or watts? Did you use a resistor?
The voltage without a resistor doesn't have any significance because that changes a lot when a resistor is added, which I've seen from personal experience.

Re: Wind Power C
You're right, voltage without a resistor is not a significant number. But I'd rather whadk answer for himself.

Re: Wind Power C
I'm not in wind power, but i just randomly made a blade and brought it to practice and mounted it on the thing,,, -.-
and my teammates went like WOA 2100???? so i kinda assumed it was really good? lol

Re: Wind Power C
For blades such as the ones used in this event, most of the work is done at the center of rotation. Therefore the center should have a high pitch compared to the tips, am i right?
Also, can the poster of this picture http://gallery.scioly.org/details.php?image_id=3366 tell me what score/voltages for this blade were?

Re: Wind Power C
My experience with wind turbine aerodynamics is extremely limited (read: nonexistent), but I think air flowing over the outer edges of the turbine would have more torque and thus do more work.illusionist wrote:For blades such as the ones used in this event, most of the work is done at the center of rotation. Also, whadk, how on earth did you manage that?

That was me... that was our second best blade, but it didn't do that well. I think it was something like 190 mv, compared to top scores of high 200s. I think it somewhat missed the point, since the more minimalistic and tiny two bladed turbines did better.

only 200 mv? my turbine hits about 420mv on 5 ohmskjhsscioly wrote:illusionist wrote:For blades such as the ones used in this event, most of the work is done at the center of rotation. Therefore the center should have a high pitch compared to the tips, am i right?

Re: Wind Power C
Ok, something strange at our tournaments this year. All the judges at the tournaments this year seem to think that the rules when they say that the contestants can alter the posistion, it only means on an X and Y plane, and the CD mount is a set distance away from the fan. I had a bit of a problem with this and have managed to have them redo the blade test at every competition this has happened in. Has anyone else seen something like this. Does posistion imply X, Y, and Z? Or only X and Y?

"WHAT?? I've fried another circuit board? GAR!!"
