I can't believe that there weren't any penalties for it.
That wasn't as dramatic as I thought, it was only smoking near the end
Now yes that poses a danger but its not as dangerous as a bot exploding in flames

Soooo about the sharpness rule. My wedge is made of a 12'' x 12'' piece of sheet metal that has been bent. I duct taped the entire edge of the blade except the part that's touching the ground. Would that constitute a second tier? Will I have to duct tape the only metal part?

You should be fine, I've seen plenty if bots with pieces a sheet metal sticking out

According to rule 3 J in the Sumo Bot section of the rules manual,"any bot damaging or depositing foreign substances on the surface of the ring will forfeit the mach." would duct tape be considered a foreign substance?

I am assuming you're talking about wrapping the wheels in duct tape. I don't mean to sound silly, but it's only legal if it never leaves residue. Any residue at all, even the tiniest bit, is grounds to automatically forfeit two matches in a row. I believe duct tape tends to sometimes leave residue, especially in hot and humid weather. There are certainly some tapes, like scotch tape, that never leave any residue. Some packing tapes leave residue, and some do not. If you can find tape that is sticky, but you are sure will never ever leave residue, then go for it!

How much mass are you able to push with your bots before your wheels start to slip?

We can push about 15kgs before our wheels start to slip and we max out at 18.

It really depends on what you are pushing. If you are pushing a cardboard box filled with stuff, then 15 kgs seems reasonable. If not, you have some crazy sticky wheels which I would like to know more about. Our bot can push about 4kgs of those metal weights you use for physics that have a hook on them. Did you mold your wheels from polyurethane like gh?
