I'm not from Illinois, but you should contact your state director to ask questions. They may be able to get you in touch with the person who runs Compute in your state.tuftedtitmouse12 wrote:who be the supervisors??? wel, at state they gave us back our paper.......hhmm...wel, glad to know that im not that terrible...computers just naturally hate me..its a wonder i can post anything on this thread.....

But they gave you two computerstuftedtitmouse12 wrote:starshine wrote: And depending on the event, my partner and I can finish one from 20-50 minutes, usually.
wat?? regionals went terrible for us...ask ktyoungster for details...to put it short, we were using open office, we never recieved a notice beforehand so we didn't really know how to use it well, the test was outrageously demanding, asking you to change excel cells into different colors, have everything in a different font and size and color (it told you EXACTLY how they wanted it tho it was pointless in my opinion) the test was VERY poorly made, quite a few errors here and there and the supervisor was correcting them during the test...isn't that not allowed? anyways, something went wrong in the supervisor's mind and he interpreted the rules as we were allowed to use TWO computers....he screamed at some teams for asking a translation of some poorly created short-short answer questions...... and to top it off, we didn't get the score sheet, you kno, the one where they give you points on how your graph was, the accuracy and stuff, we DIDN'T get it back, so we don't even kno where we went wrong..............hope state is NOTHING like this year's regionals....

Re: Compute This B
Yeah, I do both.starshine wrote:Anyone doing Compute and Meteorology this year? If so, does it help in any way? I feel that these events help each other...
You would think Compute This would help in Meteorology, being the same topic and all, but event supervisors really make the test the way they want to make it, which usually means getting data from wherever they can get data, rather than getting data from a specific area.
So no, it doesn't help much.

2009 States: 1 Compute This, 5 Trajectory
2010 States: 3 Compute This, 6 Meteorology
2011 Regionals: 1 Write It/Do It, 4 Compute This, 5 Meteorology, 3 Team

Re: Compute This B
Oh, I think that Meteorology does help Compute This, definitely. You may know the answers which makes life easier. But Compute This has only helped me in Meteorology once, and that's knowing which state has the most tornadoes.sihT etupmoC wrote:Yeah, I do both.starshine wrote:Anyone doing Compute and Meteorology this year? Re: Compute This B
I think it really depends if you'd be asked to find some random statistic about some hurricane or tornado or something broader like how some aspect of the weather works, etc. I'm in both events so I hope being in both helps somehow.starshine wrote:Anyone doing Compute and Meteorology this year? Re: Compute This B
My partner trusts me with the questions since I do Meteorology. I think knowing about what you have to find does help.Tramsarran wrote:I think it really depends if you'd be asked to find some random statistic about some hurricane or tornado or something broader like how some aspect of the weather works, etc. I'm in both events so I hope being in both helps somehow.starshine wrote:Anyone doing Compute and Meteorology this year?
