Look at who's posting in your state's topic if you want a list of people from your state (obviously it's not complete). I can only see SEARCHING by state as leading to trouble and being mildly creepy.

it is just a LITTLE creepy... i know at our state competition last year there was some thing that we did where we (well not me but a girl who was SUPER active on the forum) met up or wore there user name on there name tag.... either state or cyfalls idk... i know there is a lot of talk about that... then you would know some of the people.
but the IP thing is a bit crazy.
i could see where searching for people in your state may come in handy...
