The Regionals (MO) were easy. Just a bunch of random stuff they put together. At least, that's what they did this year.
Last year I didn't do WIDI for Regionals, just State, and it was INSANE. I had NO idea where to start writing!
And somehow we managed to place 4th place :? We guessed that everyone else probably just failed more than we did.
But I think the K'Nex is easier to write about than the junk they used at Regionals.
My partner & I work really well, anyways. We don't really practice that much, and we do really well. Luck.

If you are having difficulty with K'nex, a good strategy would be using E,W,S,N and NW,SW,NE,SE to describe which slot to use on the connectors, and give each connector an orientation, so that the open slot on the purple connector is always to the west and the flat part is always down, etc.

It was 15 K'nex pieces. I can't believe my luck haha we barely practiced and the only materials we practiced with were legos and K'nex, so when the proctor took out baggies with K'nex in it I started laughing haha. Everyone in the room thought I was crazy

My partner and I handle knex pretty well, but we have some trouble with legos. What are your strategies?
ornithology, forestry, entomology, triple E, green generation, water quality, dynamic planet (lakes & rivers), awesome aquifers, meteorology, robot arm, write it do it. :)

I'm not even sure if they use Legos, but I would give the dimensions/colors (if the colors matter).
For K'Nex, however, my partner and I have made up our own names for the pieces - such as snowflakes, connectors, stoppers, rods, etc. It helps a lot because then she knows what I'm talking about.

Legos - remember the dimensions. In this case, North East South West would really work well, Or you could say something like, "This piece is jutting out to the left."

Dimensions are essential--what if you have two green pieces of different size? I refer to the pieces by "bumps by bumps," i.e the raised part of the Legos. For example: "attach the yellow 2 by 3 bump piece to the green 2 by 2 piece so that it juts out towards you, and the yellow piece is on top..." Just an example. Argh. My WIDI skills are rusty.

A good thing for legos is to say 4x2 if it is vertically 4 and horizontally 2 and 2x4 if it is the other way around. This saves some writing. Also you can use coordinate systems or directions for which dots to use.

We used a numbering system that worked surprisingly well when we had legos (or rather "Megablox" or something like that) at regionals. Granted, there were about ten blocks.
