That's the biggest problem, and the main concern, here. I'm not sure how I would be able to do that with wooden dowels. The wing nut brake wouldn't work, as I have wooden dowels.bwy wrote:Uhh... by getting some brakes. Most cars have them, you knowTeal wrote:^
So how would I be able to keep the string from recoiling around the axle?

well one possible solution you have is to look for hollow threaded rods to fit over your wooden dowel axel, its much more difficult to get the sizes to match up and drill holes in to put set screws in so that the rod will not move [might not be good because its wood, I only worked with metals so I do not know for sure how that would work]. Remember for the threaded rod you don’t need a large peace only enough for the revs out [for my setup needed <3in of threaded rod, that’s including the space where I wound string onto as well]

No. You could probably do the interlocking gear thing, though - that seems very simple to execute. You are only locking the drive mechanism, though, not the axle, so I'm not sure how much it is going to help. A question: what size are the dowels? If you can find a threaded rod the same size, you should be able to simply swap out the axles, depending on how everything is attached.Teal wrote:Hmm, do you think that's possible to do in 2 days?

The dowels are about as wide as a standard size pencil.Flavorflav wrote:No. You could probably do the interlocking gear thing, though - that seems very simple to execute. Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
Are you using CD's for wheels? Then you could use the same system you used to connect the CDs and wooden dowels, to connect the CDs to metal threaded rods.

Yeah, that's not going to cut it. You need an actual number, like 1/4". If they are, you could probably find one pretty easily - most hardware stores will have 1/4" threaded rod.Teal wrote:The dowels are about as wide as a standard size pencil.Flavorflav wrote:No. You could probably do the interlocking gear thing, though - that seems very simple to execute. Yeah, I don't think I'll have enough time to get a threaded rod within a day.
Thanks for your help, everyone.

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
Where do we find these lovely white CD spacers? http://gallery.scioly.org/data/media/40 ... G_4328.jpg
It's the white thing on the right wheels with screws that attach it to the axle.
And also, how do you attach a threaded rod into a ball bearing (and keep it in place)?

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
Pitsco has them. As for threaded rod into bearing, you will need some kind of spacer or keeper. Spacers are easier.
