The quality of the sound is worth 25 points. The range is worth 22. Go for both.

Then why don't you guys construct/create/invent a new instument that has good range and tone?

I actually have ideas of what you guys could do. Just won't say because I want to see if you can figure them out.

MUCH easier said than done. When I first set out to make a xylophone, it seemed simple enough: get some different length wood bars and attach them to some rails. I thought it would take 10 hours and $40 at the most. Fifty hours of work, at least $75, two mishaps, and three revisions later, I finally have a working xylophone with full range and decent sound quality.

If I understand the rules correctly, the range for a single instrument is worth roughly the same as the sound quality (6 vs 5). However, the sound quality of both instruments may be judged again as "ease to play" in the workmanship score (15 pts), and as "blend" and "timbre" in the sound of ensemble category (25 pts). Also, the range of both instruments may be judged again in the "following all the rules" category (16 pts) and the "correct range" category (4 points), both under bonus points.

haha, pretty sure that's the point of the event.

Also, I'm about to try a balloon bagpipe because I have a practice chanter and a bag of balloons. Probably won't work.

I'm slightly confused. Do we have to play the C-major/G-major scale or all 12 or whatever notes between C4/C5 // G respective, since it says "12 toned tempered scale"?
