Bottle Rocket B

Well it really depends on what design you are using before i make any major suggestions on increasing time.
Depending on what it does in the air one thing to do is make the rocket more aerodynamic.
It is only a B division event so that is what i am coaching

It is a trial event for C division in NY, and possibly elsewhere.

I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. Any ideas for Regional pwnage

If a fin falls off when it hits the ground, does it count as a part falling off in flight, or not because it just landed?

as soon as any part of the bottle rocket like any fins or the nose cone fall off and hit the ground that will count as the end of the launch. What times are you getting?

Our rockets are good, but are not staying in the air as long as we think they should be. Does anyone know a good way to make a bottle rocket stay in the air a long time, or any tips on a sort of glider that would make the time between the beginning of the drop and contact with the ground shorter.

What are the best materials to use for the fins and nose? This is my first year in this event and don't know where to begin. The competition is in one week and I am planning on finishing the building this weekend. Please and Thank You!

The team I have been helping has been using Balsa for some of their rockets and also a few of them seem to be having great luck with triangles cut from those plastic signs (its a double layer of plastic like This and This)

And for nosecones they have been using everything from the top of a bottle to cardstock to poster board

There are tw types of fins. Shorter fins will get you up higher, but larger ones will help you fall slower. So you have to decide also what you wan tin a rocket. Also, I have found that the winning rockets always yous a cardboard tube that's about 2.5 feet long instead of a cone.

You want to use thin materials that are somewhat flexible but also still sturdy. Strofoam sheets and plastic sheets work well.
