For our turbine what we did was use wedges to set the pitch to the desired angle. Our turbine was generating a peak of 9,850mv during our own trials. We, annoyingly, couldn't find a 10 ohm load resistor, so I had a friend get a pot to close to the desired resistance. We finished first at regionals, even though we were laughed at during the competition because my partner was making the binder in the hallway before competition. The event supervisor told him that all papers had to be hole punched and in the binder, and if anything fell out of the binder when it was picked up, it wouldn't be allowed on the test. So, he shook the binder massively, like ten pages fell out, and we went in and took the test. West point should be fun, facing FM not so much.

I was assigned this event, and am not sure exactly what I'm supposed to do. What I understand so far is that I have to build propellers for a fan, that I attach to a cd. Is there anything else. Also, does anyone know what the best or easiest building materials are?

There's also a written portion of the test, you should go to the wiki(link is at the top of the page) for more info.
The best building materials for me so far has been plastic... just that. XD

btw: the Gorilla glue works perfectly fine with wood+cd

and I just tested mine today: 669 mV without resistor, 1mV with.... >.< it's hideous. but okayish enough to get 2nd at the regional we go to, LOL

The CD won't help, cut most of it, except the hole and the first few CM off, then build a blade out of balsa and attache those to the left over plastic hole. The assembly to test the propeller is a cd player attached to a volt meter. Best of luck.

Don't forget the load resistor! Take a look at previous posts to see how to connect everything.

Just to make sure, but we're allowed to bring a 3-ring binder full of materials/notes for Part II of the event? It talks about a 3-ring binder, so i just wanted to clarify.

They're testing them for generating as much electricity as possible with resistors connected to the generator. How it's set up has been shown somewhere in the thread... in the previous pages. (btw, how are you on the internet if you're in ISS??)

I cant find the image in the posts because the firewall doesn't let most images through.
