Experimental Design
Re: Experimental Design
It doesn't necessarily have to be a physics-based lab. At states last year ours had to do with yeast fermentation (I don't know if it counts as bio or chem, but it's definately not physics).

Re: Experimental Design
At my regionals last year it was all physics, and I didn't know any physics...
Luckily 1 of my partners was in physics and the other was in AP Physics. We got first place!
Im currently in physics...

Is physics only for C or is it also for B?

Re: Experimental Design
neither we're just saying that most compitions have a physics topic you need to make a an experiment about but both div. can do anything its just easier to do physics

Re: Experimental Design
its usually physics only because the experiments are the quickest to set up and perform. But i think itd be awesome if they did something else that has to do with chem or bio.

Re: Experimental Design
Well, I'm new to this event and I seen all the tips up there, but how would be the best way to practice? Just get someone to bring you random stuff and try to design an experiment. Cause that is what they do right? Also, do they tell you what your experiment is about before you do it. Like do they go up and say it's physics, chemistry, or bio?

Re: Experimental Design
Yes that the most common way of practicing i mean it covers EVERYTHING and its easy to do.
Yes most of the time when you get in the event they make there are your materials and your experiments has to involve whatever.
Now how specific they get on the subject varies A TON!!! heres a sample list: Science of any kind, Physics, Elastic energy, Gravity, use the yeast, mesure the ph, so you see it can be really broad or really specific

Re: Experimental Design
you dont need to know so much. i mean i got through 2 years of this with only knowledge of gravity, friction, and air resistance
SO stressed!
