I have tried both the solder and the dremel, but I had the issue with both, I guess it is unavoidable

Could it have to do something with the type of CD you are using? Are they new ones? If so, what brand?

Well, I'm not very good at cutting with scissors, so sometimes I crack the CD! The dremel is a safer bet for me. :)

I have a problem with cracking the CD too. Idk, there may be other ways of cutting it, but none that I can think of right now

Yup, other than the dremel and pencil-solder

I guess I will end up using a combination of a dremel and a pencil solder but i will have to sand of the plastic bits (really annoying when you have to make so many cuts), but that's unavoidable

Has anyone tried a traditional wind turbine design like this?

I haven't tried it, but in my opinion I don't think it will work too well for this event. We need to catch the maximum amount of air for this event, and the commercial wind turbines are designed to catch the amount of air that is available (which is generally a little that is moving at fairly slow speeds). So most likely, they wouldn't be the most efficient unless they were made much wider. But that's just my opinion.
