Re: Ornithology B/C
I competed in this event last year and I am returning to compete and coach. Last year, there were a large amount of stations with eggs and different habitats. Does anyone have any good resources or ANYTHING that could help me with those? I'm desperate!

For eggs, you can make or find a chart to put in your notes. You probably only need to include the most commonly known eggs. As for habitats, it's best to try and learn those as you study individual bird species.rdamato96 wrote:I competed in this event last year and I am returning to compete and coach. For general resources, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a lot of great things: allaboutbirds.com, the macaulay library (for vocalizations), and the birds of north america. You have to pay a subscription fee for the latter, but it has a lot of great information. Wikipedia isn't bad too, for quick studying.
Not competing in the 2011-12 season.

You don't know. Put as much detail as you can. If you don't have much time, then just put the basics.iYOA wrote:when they ask a question such as: what food does this bird eat? how specific of an answer are they looking for?

Yeah. The rules say you can have two, but I was just at an invitational meet and they only let me have one.

So really, if you are doing this event alone, you could only have one, while everyone else has two?iYOA wrote:isnt it technically 1 per person?

The national website addressed this issue here: http://soinc.org/node/619
So, I suggest printing that out and bringing it to competitions. It is easy for an event supervisor to miss this if they aren't reading carefully. If they tell you you can only have 1 of each, show them the clarification from the National site, along with the rules themselves, and it will go a long way to winning your case.

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Yes, That's what it says. If you are in that situation and ANYBODY from your team is free, BRING THEM just to get the extra resources in. Also, even if they don't know anything you can have them look up birds while you are answering other questions.quizbowl wrote:So really, if you are doing this event alone, you could only have one, while everyone else has two?iYOA wrote:isnt it technically 1 per person?
