At my school during your senior year you can take 7 classes but they dont recommend that because you will have no ASCs. I dont think anyone ever does that. The majority of the people in my grade take 5 classes therefore if they pass all of them they will have 25 credits for the year. [5 credits if you do it the way all your schools do it] This year i took 6 courses. the 5 major ones plus an elective.

What's an ASC? Is that a study hall?
Foreign language is generally considered a "core" class.
But your system doesn't really give you much flexibility to take electives. I've taken at least two electives every year. And our school offers a ton of electives (probably close to 100). This year, unfortunately, I had to give up French in order to take Health, which is a joke of a class but a graduation requirement for NYS (1/2 year). Wish that I didn't have to.

yeah, ASC [academic support center] is like a study hall only you have NO freedoms at all. No talking, no leaving the room, just sit there and do homework and if you dont have homework then you can sleep. Last year you were allowed to leave and go to the computer lab in the library but they dont allow that anymore. I think we have around 20 electives. A lot of them i am interested in but if i want to take an AP class junior or senior year then i wont have the time to take one. We are required to take one term of health freshman year. We are also required to take wellness for a term in freshman, sophomore, and junior year. The way they do that is freshman year you have a semester of ASC then the next term you have wellness for that block then the next term you have health for that block. When your a sophomore and a junior You have 3 terms of ASC and one term of Wellness for that block. Once your a senior you dont have to take wellness which means you get 4 terms of ASC which also means you can choose to take a different full year course in place of that but you cant do that freshman through junior because one term of that block you have to take wellness. Sorry if that makes no sense.

Ah, OK. In our study halls, most teachers let you talk, but you have to be doing work, studying, talking, napping, etc. No playing games or anything. You can go to the library if you want. Senior study halls are different...you can go to lunch, talk, sing, watch TV, play video games, play board games, listen to music, etc.Pleiades wrote:yeah, ASC [academic support center] is like a study hall only you have NO freedoms at all. We have to take a semester of health in grade 11 or 12...which is ridiculous since you could fit it into your schedule easier as a freshman/sophomore (a lot of electives commonly taken those years are half-year)...and when you're a junior/senior you probably want to take more AP classes, which are (mostly) full year. It's probably 7th grade material (some of the work we do looks the same as the stuff we did in 7th grade)...so it's basically a waste of a period.
I see two different trends among seniors: those who take as many classes as they can, and those who take three classes and leave.

I see the same thing here. You either see seniors taking 6 AP classes or a mix of AP and honors or you see people taking english plus 3 electives and 3 ASCs. You hardly ever see someone take like 4 or 5 major classes plus a couple electives.andrewwski wrote: I see two different trends among seniors: those who take as many classes as they can, and those who take three classes and leave.
