According to the rules, the overall topic is still galaxies, and it's only the specific topics that are changed. Actually, I don't think they are really taking out anything major from last year except for the DSO's, and are just adding stuff that we need to cover. So all the stuff you did last year still pertains to this year, just more work is required.smartkid222 wrote:Since when did they chage the topic!!
That's so sad

Re: Astronomy C
Google images. Just type in the name and pick out every distinct picture you find, but make sure you confirm that it actually is the DSO and not something else on the same page as an article for the DSO. Also, the pictures they use are not always ones that appear on the first few pages, so dig deep.phillies413 wrote:Hey so does anyone know where to find the type of pictures they use in competition for the DSOs. Re: Astronomy C
I'm totally new to Science Olympiad in general, and I'm going Astronomy as one of my competitions.
Since I want to be an astrophysicist when I grow up, I really want to learn a lot and do well in this competition.
I just think I need a LOT of help on studying for it and what to expect on the test, because I think my team is familiar with DSOs and light curves and stastical concepts and the like, but galaxies is a really, really broad topic. So, we're kinda lost on what to expect. Help, please?

Re: Astronomy C
The rules will specify what specific topics about galaxies will appear on tests. However, you are right in that galaxies is a broad topic. Hence each participant's ability to bring a binder or laptop. As always, the Astronomy Wiki is a good starting resource.

Re: Astronomy C
Does anyone know of a good source to find information for the DSO's? Stuff like what is listed here on the second page: http://soinc.org/sites/default/files/20 ... andout.pdf
I'm having a tough time finding reliable information like this

Re: Astronomy C
Try the databases listed on the third page.
Old Events:
Astronomy, Remote Sensing (Both Mars and Global Warming), Dynamic Planet (Oceanography/Earthquakes and Volcanoes), It's About Time, Technical Problem Solving, and I really don't want to count, but did fail at-Fermi Questions.
