That's actually incorrect. Disease detectives is running. Instead, helicopter is unfortunetly not running. Wright stuff is considered by some to be Sci Oly's most iconic event; not having its successor run is disappointing, but certainly in some ways understandable.

As has been the case for the past three or four years, the list will be released soon after the coaches clinic in Poughkeepsie, which is in two weeks. I can't say proteins is a sure thing, since it is comparatively difficult to administer and grade. Of course, if there was a volunteer who was willing to run it ...

mid hudson isnt up either, but since our region is so small that we usually dont run the building events that are big. for example, trajectory, bottle rocket, and helicopter, and a bunch of other building events that take up mad space werent run last year. which kinda sucks cause we dont get the practice trial at regionals....

I think Flavorflav said (when I asked about it last year) that there's some state-provided incentive for Regional competitions to run the trial events, so because Protein and Helicopter were trials last year, all the regions ran them (at least, I assume they did).

I'm hoping that some of the Stony Brook University faculty who do MSOE's SMART protein modeling program will volunteer to help out with the event this year, since they were involved with it last year. Unfortunately, it's still a pretty complicated event to set up and score, even though MSOE sends out guidelines for setup and scoring, so it's hard to know if the Regional coordinators will think it's worth the effort.

The incentive didn't apply to helicopter b/c that was a pilot event, not a trial. ELI wasn't going to run it, until a coach who really wanted it to run stepped up and volunteered to supervise. Ditto for Egg-O-Naut, BTW - you really can't draft someone to stand outside all day in February, handling metal and water.

BTW, Phenyl, your know that your other event is pretty much guaranteed not to run?

In Western Long Island events are not run because they "are difficult to administer and score" or anything like that. The coaches vote on which events they don't want to run. The top 5 events with the most votes don't run. So there is no incentive to run the trial events any more than the national events.
Yes protein and helicopter both ran last year. If helicopter had been a pilot event again this year it would have ran at regionals because pilot events can't get voted out.
lolololol I don't know when they put up the schedule. Usually we don't have many conflicts. How many events are you doing?

well, as of now, three at regionals, but probably four, if my captain stops being a jerk.
fossils, ecology, and experimental, and probably dyplan
i know that last year i could do both fossils and experimental, and my friend could do both ecology and dyplan, but im not sure whether those four all coexist.

do you have last year's schedule at regionals anywhere?
EDIT: found it, if it has no changes, and I stay in my team number of 28, then all is well.

I believe there is. The state organization doesn't give the region as many medals if they don't run the trials, I think.
