I have one odd question to ask: do the event supervisors care if I had decorated the cover and back of my binder? There is a plastic sleeve in the front and back so I put in two funny pictures and a few Sayings in Latin with my partners and my names on the book. I don’t think they care, I bet they will laugh when they see it [that’s the point] its not informational in anyway [so I don’t see a problem] has anyone see a judge who has done anything to people with stuff on the outside of their binder?

I don't think they would care; I have a 'cover' on my binder and nobody mentioned anything at regionals. The most they could do is make you take it out, which shouldn't be much of a problem.

glaciergary wrote:I just posted the NYS Invitational Fossils Event from 2009. There are two files: one is the event with answer sheet and answer key; the other are images of the specimens for each station.

However, I don't know where it uploaded to! There is no Fossils folder in the Test Exchange for 2010. I checked the recent activity and it appears to have been uploaded, but I can't find the files.

Can someone help me post it to the test exchange?

Were there any specimens at nationals last year that weren't off the official list?

No, I have done a good few ID events at nationals and never has there been anything not on an official list.

Does anyone have a preference about the font to use in your binders? I've been mainly using Times New Roman, but I've never really given it much thought until a moment ago. Opinions?

Edit: Another question: How did you guys use sheet protectors and binder tabs at the same time? When I put sheet protectors on my pages, it extends the width of the pages and it covers up the tabs. Has anyone figured out how to avoid this? :x

Custom tabs? Not actual full page tab dividers, use your own. I prefer making them out of tape, but you can get legit tabs as well.

How about cutting a hole in the side to put the tab through? Then you can put the divider in a sheet protector and it will stay out.

I handwrite most of it, but if I were to use experience from cheat sheet making, I'd say that if you want to write small, use tahoma or verdana... something sans serifs because serifs can sometimes just get in your way when your typing small. I use tahoma.

I handwrite the information sheets for all of the fossils, but for everything else it doesn't matter that much. Times New Roman is probably the most used font in mine because that is the default font on my computer.
