I just found out that in Indiana, all B teams can bring binders. This is on the Indiana Sc.Olypd. website.Why isn't this happening in PA. t would really help for ornithology and other events.

Umm... all teams can bring binders for Fossils. It's in the rules...

Ya im pretty sure this is wat he meant.

But either way, that's just stupid...Fossils is an event where you need a binder because theres just so much info they could ask you about. Now you can get the basics down (such as preservation, IDing, etc) which make up the majority of the test, but if you want to be competitive at the state and national level, youll need a binder in order to obtain the little details such as the range of the fossils, nicknames, morphologic info, and other such info.

I don't think you really need a binder for the other study events...

My partner and I have been studying dinosaurs because that is our major weakness and the grouping/taxonomy is really confusing us. Could someone please explain diapsids, synapsids, anapsids, etc.? And maybe archosauria and dinosauria, because I thought they were all under dinosauria but then we look it up and many things say archosauria. Anyway, it's all running together for us and I need someone to straighten this out! thanks

"apsid" refers to the number of fenestrae, or holes in the skull. Diapsids have two, synapsids have one, and anapsids have none. Archosauria have one fenestra on each side of the skull in front of the eyes, so they are diapsids. dinodata.com has a good cladistic chart if you want to see the evolution. Dinosauria is a more specific group of reptiles, the dinosaurs, as you can see on a cladistic chart. Hope that helps.
