i wouldnt say much about them as a problem...i think there was just one question on them that we were confused about. there were only a few questions, maybe three, that we werent completely sure of, but we only got 7th. just goes to show you how competitive New York is.

Well, in recrystallization, the fossil would have been replaced with crystalline minerals. Look for the shiny stuff. Replacement is essentially just a mineral process. That is what you'd go with if any specific replacement method didn't fit. Premineralization makes internal molds of the organism specifically. It's like replacement on the inside. Hope that helps.
oh, my reply's kinda late, but thanks :) i really hope forms of preservation doesn't kill me on the state test

dont worry too much on modes of presevation. there is usually only 1 station on preservation. just make sure u have a printout or page in field guide in modes of preservation an u should do fine.

my partner and i have been taking fossils tests, and there are some modes of preservation that we find hard to identify when give a picture. how do u tell what replacement is, and stuff like pyritization, recrystallization, permineralization, etc. by looking at a picture? what are some things to look for?
